Friday the 13th fire at recycling depot in Marlboro

Fire at recycling depot in Marlboro near Alexandra; no casualties according to EMS spokesperson.

A recycling depot in Marlboro Gardens caught ablaze. Johannesburg Emergency Medical Services were notified at approximately 14:00 about a fire at a place called South African Waste Management on October 13.

The fire is on the corner of 2nd Street and Fourth Avenue, Marlboro Gardens.

“We have a fire engine there, no injuries or causalities have been reported,” said EMS spokesperson Robert Malaudzi, who added that the recycling centre has combustible elements on-site.

“The priority now is to extinguish the fire; the investigation as to its cause will follow later.”

According to Sandton CPF, due to the potential risk of petrol services in the immediate vicinity, should the fire spread they ask that the community avoid this area at this time if possible.
