Nedbank celebrates green economy leaders at Sandton awards ceremony
Local changemakers receive awards and cash prizes from waste management to renewable energy to fuel their environmental impact.
Nedbank recently hosted its highly anticipated Green Economy Indaba and Awards ceremony in Sandton, shining a spotlight on local innovators and changemakers leading South Africa’s transition to a sustainable future.

The event underscored the bank’s commitment to its Green Economy Strategy, focusing on water, energy, waste, and agriculture.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Impact Partner of the Year Award to Local Village, a social enterprise excelling in community development.
Based in rural areas, Local Village empowers locals by helping them start businesses, providing training in manufacturing, financial literacy, and market access, while also creating jobs for people with disabilities.
Kensi Nobanda, Nedbank’s executive for group marketing and corporate affairs, praised Local Village for its exceptional social return on investment and its significant employment impact.

“These partnerships are not just meaningful, they are impactful,” said Nobanda.
Other Sandton-based and regional partners also received awards for their contributions to sustainable practices.
This included companies making strides in waste management, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy.
Cash prizes ranging from R50 000 to R200 000 were awarded to further support these innovative initiatives.
