No water in parts of Sandton and Alexandra

Residents in parts of Sandton and Alex remain without water due to a pipe burst, after 11 hours of water throttling.

A burst water pipe has led to an interruption in water supply to areas in Sandton and Alexandra.

According to Johannesburg Water (JW), water supply was meant to continue as normal after meters in Sandton were closed as part of its efforts to manage water demand. Water meters were closed from 18:00 on Sunday and intended to be opened at 5:00 on Monday morning.

The water utility did not open meters as planned, however, due to a burst pipe at Bhekilanga to allow their team to assess the damage.

Areas affected by the interruption, include:

  • Morningside,
  • Malboro and surrounding areas,
  • Illovo,
  • Bryanston resevoirs,
  • Parts of Alexandra,
  • Wynberg,
  • Wendywood, and
  • Woodmead.

JW has not given an estimated time of restoration.
