Crawford Sandton’s pre-Mandela Day heartwarming soup jar project
Little hands, big hearts as Crawford Sandton learners turn a simple soup jar into a powerful Mandela Day message.
Crawford International Sandton’s youngest learners marked a meaningful pre-Mandela Day celebration on June 25 by assembling jars of dry soup mix to donate to families in need.

Grade 00 teacher and organiser Bianca Fleishman explained that each grade contributed a different ingredient. “Grade 00 brought rice, Grade 000 provided lentils, Grade 00 also added dry soup mix, and the Grade 0s contributed powdered soup sachets.”

At dedicated stations, children scooped the ingredients into jars, learning valuable skills while giving back. “They now understand that some families don’t have enough food. These jars only need hot water and can feed a whole family, and they are super healthy.”
