Water shutdown in Sandton tonight

Residents in Sandton and surrounding areas are urged to prepare for a planned water outage from 18:00 tonight as Johannesburg Water closes key meters to stabilise the city’s supply network.

Johannesburg Water has announced the temporary closure of Sandton water meters this evening, in an effort to stabilize water supply to struggling parts of the city. The intervention is part of the utility’s ongoing water demand management programme aimed at addressing pressure imbalances across the metropolitan network.

The shutdown will begin at 18:00 on Monday, June 30, and will continue until 05:00 on Tuesday morning, affecting several areas reliant on the Sandton system.

According to a statement released by the utility, the move is necessary to redirect water to high-need zones and maintain reservoir levels across the city.

Areas expected to experience low pressure or no water include:

  • Linbro Park (Direct feed and reservoir)
  • Marlboro (Direct feed and reservoir)
  • Illovo (Reservoir and tower)
  • Bryanston (Reservoir and tower)
  • Morningside reservoir

Johannesburg Water has advised residents to store sufficient water for essential use ahead of the outage and to limit consumption during the affected hours.

The utility also urged customers to keep taps closed to prevent water loss or damage when the supply resumes.
