Castle Lager Boktown redefines the South African fan experience
Castle Lager Boktown marks an event that brings together a cross-section of South African life, from die-hard fans to families discovering the game for the first time.
In a country where sport often echoes deeper social rhythms, Castle Lager Boktown is making its return, not just as a fan zone; as a cultural movement.
Launched officially on June 20 at the South African Breweries (SAB) headquarters in Bryanston, Boktown re-emerges as a powerful connector of people, identity, and pride, with music, food, storytelling, and sport woven into one experience.
The launch was graced by prominent dignitaries, including Gayton McKenzie, Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, who delivered a stirring message about the role of sport in national pride and community building. Also in attendance was Mark Alexander, president of SA Rugby, who emphasised the importance of fan engagement and the legacy of the Springboks.

The nationwide tour officially kicks off on June 28, at Wanderers Oval in Johannesburg, during what promises to be a historic Springbok encounter, their first-ever clash with the Barbarians on home soil, but Boktown is not just about watching the game; it is about living it.
“Boktown was never just about rugby,” said Castle Lager brand director Thomas Lawrence. “It is a celebration of who we are.”

He added that it is where music meets memories, where children wear their first Springbok jerseys, and where generations connect over more than a game.
SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer reinforced this idea, calling Boktown the heartbeat of the nation on game days. “When fans gather in spaces like this, they are not just watching rugby; they are building community and celebrating resilience.”
