E-hailing shutdown: Disruptions from Sandton to Parktown head office
Thousands of commuters across Joburg can expect to face transport disruptions today as Uber and Bolt drivers protest over alleged unfair excessive commission deductions.
E-hailing drivers in Joburg have launched a shutdown in protest against what they call commission structures imposed by e-hailing companies like Uber and Bolt.
The action is expected to leave commuters stranded.

Drivers began gathering early this morning in Sandton, before marching to Uber’s headquarters in Parktown, demanding that their concerns over e-hailing fares and commission be addressed.

According to drivers, some platforms deduct as much as 40% commission per trip, which they say is unsustainable in the face of rising fuel prices, car maintenance costs, insurance costs, and the general cost of living

Commuters have been advised to make alternative travel plans, as disruptions to Uber and Bolt services are expected throughout the day.
The strike is open-ended, with drivers vowing to continue until a formal response is received from the affected companies.
Neither Uber nor Bolt had issued an official statement by the time of publication.
