Oblates secure win against Vagabonds in Masters Hockey League
A lively Saturday fixture saw the Oblates team dominate the Vagabonds team, with both teams praising the match for its festive and friendly atmosphere.
A Masters Hockey League fixture saw the Oblates team deliver a strong performance, defeating the Vagabonds, a Morningside Country Club hockey team, with five goals on April 18.

The league, which runs from April to September, brings together players aged 40 to around 70 from various teams, creating a social yet competitive environment where participants meet every Saturday to enjoy the game.
“We always come out on Saturday and have a festive game of hockey,” Oblates team captain Carl Eichstadt said, speaking after the match. “Today was against Vagabonds, and we managed to get five goals against them. It was really a lovely outing, played in a great spirit and enjoyed by everybody.”

“We had a nice afternoon game against Oblates,” added Vagabonds player Derek Walker. “It was quite a good game. They just came up a little bit more organised than we were, and a bit younger. So, they showed us how to play the game. I loved the game. Plenty of spirit. We really enjoyed it.”
Walker said that while they weren’t happy with the loss, they acknowledged the quality of the opposition. “We lost, so we are not happy. We all like to win, but it was a great game, played against some good players. We just have to pick up our game. We were a little soft and slow. Most of our regular players are not around. I guess, maybe, it’s because of the school holidays, but hopefully we will be with them in the next game.”
