Illovo residents petition councillor over Cydna substation power outages
Ward 90 councillor Renate van Onselen is calling on Illovo residents who have not yet signed a petition over recurring power outages to add their names before it closes.
Illovo residents have until midnight today to add their names to a petition calling for a long-term solution to recurring power outages affecting the area.
Ward 90 councillor Renate van Onselen said 218 people had signed the petition so far, but urged more residents, particularly those affected by the power cuts, to participate before the deadline.
The drive follows concerns raised by residents regarding recurring and sometimes prolonged electricity outages linked to the Cydna substation.

The councillor said the petition was intended to demonstrate the extent of the problem and strengthen the case for a permanent infrastructure solution rather than repeated repairs after each outage.
“The greater your participation, the stronger the evidence that this requires a permanent infrastructure solution, and not just another repair after the next outage,” said Van Onselen.
