Metropolitan launches new road running series in Sandton

This is an initiative aimed at supporting individuals and their communities in achieving holistic wellness.

The Metropolitan Mojo Series is centred on running races that resonate with the communities where the company operates and is targeted at all members of the community, young and old, who are interested in being both physically and financially fit.

“We identified that there is a gap between financial and physical wellness, where some people do not view wellness in its holistic form,” said Llewellyn Allen, head of brand for Metropolitan. He explained that through the Metropolitan Mojo Series, they would like to close this gap and enhance the lifetime financial and physical wellness of people, their families and communities as a whole.

The first three races were identified in various communities within Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. The Diepkloof Athletics Club Half Marathon is one of the Gauteng community races that forms part of the series. There are further plans in the pipeline to expand the series to more communities next year.

As part of the series, Metropolitan will also have a Takkie Run where runners will be encouraged to donate new or used running shoes which will be handed on to young aspiring runners within the communities. The recipients of the donations will be identified in partnership with each of the races in the various regions.

“This is just the beginning of our commitment towards growing the Metropolitan Mojo Series,” said Allen.

“We would like to encourage the communities to engage with us and participate in the series. We are also looking at working with even more communities throughout South Africa in the near future in developing this initiative and promoting overall wellness.”
