Wits are top of Absa Premiership
JOBURG - Bidvest Wits Football Club went top of the Absa Premiership table after beating Chippa United 3-1 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Newly signed striker James Keene marked his debut by striking twice in the second half to give Wits an unassailable lead of three goals after Phakamani Mhlambi had opened the scoring.
Wits now lead title rivals Mamelodi Sundowns by two points after 13 games.
Wits coach Gavin Hunt was pleased with his team’s all-round performance and praised his charges for their dominant display.
Emerging young star Mhlambi was delighted to score the first goal of the year for his team and hoped for many more. ” I would like to be the top goal scorer for this season and that’s what I’m working towards,” he said.
“It felt amazing to score the first goal of 2016.
“We need to give credit to the team, they worked very hard yesterday and I would like to give a special mention to Gavin Hunt. We claimed the three points thanks to good teamwork and some special goals from James [Keene], and myself.”
