From Bryanston to the national spotlight for tennis player

With determination and hard work paying off, Bryanston’s Aarya Sunker is ready to take her tennis career to the next level after being named to the SA U15 national tennis team.

Aarya Sunker, a young athlete from Bryanston Country Club, has been selected for the prestigious South African schools U15 girls tennis team.

This is a significant step in what is already shaping up to be an exciting tennis career.

According to Aarya her selection not only highlights her skill and dedication but also opens doors for her future in the sport. “I felt an immense sense of joy and accomplishment when I received the news of my selection. It is a huge achievement for me and shows that all the hard work is paying off.”

She added that this milestone is a culmination of years of training, matches, and sacrifices, and, for her, it is just the beginning of what she hopes will be a successful tennis career. “The road to selection was demanding, my process involved competing against top players from across South Africa, making it a test of my mental and physical strength.”

She explained that it was a real challenge. “Facing such high-level opposition from different provinces. It pushed me to give my best every time.”

Despite setbacks, like rain during the interprovincial tournament, Aarya remained focused. “The weather disrupted my rhythm, but I learned to adapt and push through. Overcoming those challenges made me stronger and more prepared for what’s ahead.”

For Aarya, this selection is more than just a recognition of her skills; it is a stepping stone in her tennis career. “Being selected for the team is a huge boost for my future in tennis. It’s a big achievement, but I know there’s so much more to work for,” she shared.

Aarya elaborated that her preparation was meticulous, with her training regimen including extra match practice and a strong support system at home. “My dad, who is also my coach, has been instrumental in my journey. His guidance and support have been key to my development.”

As she looks to the future, Aarya has big goals in both her tennis career and life. “I want to build on this experience, continue improving, and set even higher goals for myself in the sport.”

She said her experience playing with the talented U15 team has also taught her valuable lessons about teamwork and the importance of supporting each other. “At first, it was intimidating, but I quickly realised how much I could learn from my teammates. The bonds we formed were crucial to our success.”
