Halloween crafts perfect for little hands
From lollipop spiders and paper cup ghosts to paper plate witch hats, your kids will have a blast making these three Halloween activities.
Encourage your kids to exercise their creativity and enjoy some time bonding as a family with these three Halloween crafts.
Lollipop spiders
These lollipop spiders are quick and simple to make, plus they’re fun treats to send to school on Halloween.
You will need
- 1 round lollipop
- 2 googly eyes
- 2 black pipe cleaners
- Glue
Method
- Cut two black pipe cleaners in half.
- Line up the four pipe cleaner pieces. They don’t have to be perfectly even, you can bend or trim them later.
- Place the lollipop on top of the pipe cleaners, about a third of the way in from one side.
- Loop the long ends of the pipe cleaners around the lollipop.
- Bend the legs into “L” shapes and spread slightly sideways so the legs are equally spaced.
- Glue the googly eyes towards the front of the spider’s body.
Paper cup ghost
A paper cup can easily transform into a friendly ghost. Make a few, hang them up and watch them sway in the breeze.
You will need
- White polystyrene cup
- White cardboard
- White crêpe paper or plain white plastic bag
- Googly eyes
- White glue
- String or wool
- Glue or tape
- Pencil
- Black marker
Method
- Draw a pair of ghost arms on white cardboard and cut out each arm.
- Use the tip of a pencil to punch a small hole at the centre of the bottom of the cup.
- Cut a length of string or wool and thread through the hole from inside the cup and make a large knot at the end inside the cup. You can glue or tape the knotted end of the string to the inside of the cup.
- Glue or tape the arms to the cup.
- Draw a pair of eyes and a mouth.
- Cut white crêpe paper or a white plastic bag into six or more strips, approximately 2.5cm wide and 25cm long.
- Stick one end of each strip around the inside of the mouth of the paper cup. Try to space them as evenly as you can.
Paper plate witch hats
Play the role of the friendly witch with these fun creations.
You will need
- Paper plate
- Party hat with elastic
- Sellotape
- Black paint
- Decorations (stickers, glitter glue, and plastic insects)
Method
- Paint the hat and the paper plate and allow to dry.
- Place the hat in the middle of the plate and trace around it.
- Draw another circle about 1.5cm around the inside of the original circle.
- Poke a hole in the middle of the plate to help get your scissors in there.
- Cut out the middle circle. Now cut slits to the original size of the hat.
- Bend back the flaps you’ve just cut.
- Insert the party hat through the hole in your plate, making sure the elastic from the hat is straightened out and hanging down. Tape all the flaps of the plate to the bottom of the hat.
- Decorate with stickers, plastic insects, or whatever you have.
