EVATON.- A man, believed to be a senior member of the Evaton West Taxi Association, was shot and killed at Evaton Mall yesterday morning.

The deceased will be identified by family

It is said that the Evaton police responded to a reported shooting incident at Evaton Taxi Rank, near the Evaton Taxi Association offices and upon their arrival at the scene, they were directed to the deceased, who, police said, will be identified later after the family has been informed.

The man was shot even after falling down

“According to a witness, he was standing with the deceased near the taxi rank when the deceased noticed water leaking underneath his vehicle. While inspecting the vehicle, the deceased was approached by an unknown male suspect who fired a shot at the back of his head. A second suspect then joined and fired multiple shots at the deceased, continuing even after he had fallen to the ground,” police spokesperson, Sergeant Ndhambi said.

Both suspects fled the scene and remain unknown at this stage.

They are said to have not been wearing balaclavas, and they are described as follows:

○ Average height

○ Light in complexion

○ Medium build

10 cartridges recovered at the scene

Sergeant Tintswalo Ndhambi added that approximately 10 spent cartridges were recovered at the scene, believed to be from a 9mm firearm.

“The deceased sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A case of murder has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.”
