SEDIBENG. – A new party, Sedibeng Emfuleni Resident Association (SERA), has been registered to officially contest the upcoming 2026 Local Government Elections (LGE).

The party will contest all wards under Sedibeng District Municipality, including Midvaal Local Municipality and Lesedi Local Municipality.

The party has been described as a ratepayers’ organisation, civic movement, and residents’ organisation.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, the party’s Chairperson, Abram Motau, said that residents now have an alternative platform where they can elect leaders of their choice rather than have leaders imposed on them by political systems.

SERA said that it stands for:

•            Institutional Partnerships: Partner with the premier universities in the Emfuleni region to source cutting-edge technical skills, research, and innovation to improve service delivery.

•            Legacy Skill Recalls: Recall retired or former expert municipal employees on short-term contracts to impart rare, specialized skills to current staff and bridge the technical gap.

•            Staff Restructuring: Eliminate duplicated administrative positions, enforce strict workplace discipline, and restructure departments to maximise efficiency.

•            Zero-Waste Procurement: Account for every single cent of public expenditure. We will enforce rigid compliance with procurement laws and audit the actual value delivered by external vendors to eliminate corruption and wasteful expenditure.

We hold no political inclinations.

“SERA is an apolitical, non-sectarian, non-sexist, and non-racist association of residents.  We hold no political or ideological inclinations. SERA exists purely to defend, protect, and represent our residents against all omissions, service failures, and improprieties meted out by the state or its organs. Service delivery is a fundamental right, not a political favour. It must never be politicised,” Motau said.
