Residents now fed up with illegal dumping site at Redan

Residents have now had enough of the smell of burnt rubbish.

VEREENIGING. – Residents of Redan and surrounding areas and students and teachers from the Springfield School blocked the M61 road between Redan and Meyerton with tires, branches and rubbish on Friday morning in protest against the illegal dumping site on the Eskom servitude between the R59 motorway and the M61.

Protesters told Vaalweekblad that they are fed up with the smoke and the smell of burnt rubbish coming from the landfill.

They also complain about the unsightly pile of rubbish on their front porch.

The illegal landfill was created after the Emfuleni Local Municipality closed the Waldrif landfill earlier and people now dump their rubbish there.
