Former Metsimaholo Local Municipality mayor Lindiwe Tshongwe passes away

Tributes continue to pour in following the passing of Metsimaholo Local Municipality's former mayor and the now MMC of Finance and IDP.

SASOLBURG. – Metsimaholo Local Municipality is mourning the passing of their former mayor and the now MMC for Finance and Integrated Development Plan, Lindiwe Tshongwe after her long illness.

Council mayor, Jack Malindi has since confirmed the news of Tshongwe’s passing through a media statement widely circulated on the municipality’s social media platforms.

According to the statement, Tshongwe who was a PR Councillor for the African National Congress met her untimely death on Tuesday, May 21.

Malindi expressed his profound sorrow on behalf of the municipality referring to the loss as a sad day and described as a dedicated leader of the people.

“News of her passing undoubtedly sent shock waves throughout the entire Metsimaholo Local Municipality area, as well as the entire Fezile Dabi District. We were still a lot from her in terms of contributing to the development and changing the lives of our communities [residents],” he said.

“At the time of her death, Tshongwe was a PR Councillor of the African National Congress (ANC) at Metsimaholo. We have lost one of the very committed councillors, a community leader and employee. Her death deprived us of one of the brightest rising stars who are committed to the development of her people,” said the mayor.

Malindi said Tshongwe’s astuteness and vigilance will be dearly missed.

“Our municipality has lost a steadfast, raw, vigilant but committed activist whose life story is a testimony of selfless service to others,” he said.
