EVATON. – The community of Evaton awoke to shocking news on Thursday morning.
One of their biggest and newly renovated malls – namely Evaton Mall – had been robbed by armed robbers. It is alleged that 12 armed men entered the mall on Wednesday night at about 20:00 near closing time. They blocked all the mall entrances, forcing security guards to close the building immediately.

This action resulted in one of the guards being badly injured and one shot. These two guards are still alive and were rushed to hospital after the evacuation of the suspects. The suspects are alleged to have forced their way into three stores, including an electrical appliances store where ipads are tooled. The two others stores were broken into to gain access.
It is also indicated that entry into the other store was fruitless as nothing was taken. Happy Mnisi, the centre manager, says it’s an unfortunate incident for the Evaton community and the surrounding areas to have experienced this horrific act, which has impaired the area’s image.
Mnisi confirms that one guard was shot, though the guard survived and is in hospital, while the other guard was badly beaten by the suspects:
“Both guards are stable in hospital.”
He adds that there are no clear indications what the suspects took from the stores as the matter is still under police investigation. Mnisi could confirm that the mall would be back to normal and that the unfortunate incident would be microscopically investigated and security measures will be ensured and enforced: “We are going to impose security measures and ensure the safety of civilians.” Police are investigating a case of business robbery. No arrests were indicated by the Evaton Police.
