SEBOKENG. – De Deur Police and Tshepong residents mini-marched to Waterdal Mountain to pray against murder and drug abuse on Wednesday. The march culminated in prayer.
The local police station has become aware that people are killed and dumped in the bushes. The increase in deaths has triggered the community and De Deur Police to do something about killings.
St Joseph Apostolic Church of Zone 3 conducted the prayer. Reverend Solomon Mokoena asked: “Men, where are you?” He pointed out that initiation school is not something that only started yesterday.
“It is nothing new. We are Africans; we are raised by African parents who believe in traditions and culture. But we cannot let these young boys (initiates) do as they please, killing each other in the name of culture,” he said.
Chairperson of the Sedibeng Traditional Surgeons Solomon Mofokeng told the masses that there’s a journey to take and crucial steps ahead,
“We are fighting a spiritual battle. The evil one is taking control of those we love. If the government can help us stop illegal initiation schools we can stop these killings.”
According to De Deur Police spokesperson Constable Mapaseka Maketekete they experience a high number of murder.:
“We suspect that people are killed elsewhere and dumped in the bushes.
“We thought we would pray as we can do nothing without God.
“It’s a very touchy situation to witness such a high volume of people killed and their bodies going missing without a trace. Something needs to be done, a community member said.”
