VANDERBIJLPARK. – The Emfuleni Child and Youth Care Centre received groceries and clothes from the Veloster Honda Club and Riaz Choonara of Discount Radio.
They were also blessed with living testimonies and motivational speeches from the likes of Riaz, Moe Machitje, Jackie Matebese and Walter Nyatela (Veloster chairperson).
The event was recently held at the former Emfuleni Shelter for Boys Centre.
Riaz has promised the children to assist them if they want to register with the university of their choice after completing Grade 12. “Crime does not pay,” he said.
Riaz said those committing crimes are digging their own graves and opening jail doors for themselves.
Tebza Morobi, a club organiser, said, “Your dreams can become realities if only you live accordingly. ‘‘Make hay while the sun shines. Respect and appreciate the changes received from parents,’’ said Tebza.
Moe said he is living testimony as the first child to go overseas through sports. He advised children not to allow circumstances to determine their lives.
Walter Nyatela, the chairperson of the club, said the purpose was to do charity work:
“We saw the need to give clothes with food through the assistance of Riaz.”
He said they want to assist with the painting of the centre. The members are from different provinces.
Bohang Matlhong centre manager, thanks the Veloster Club:
“To us we do not measure the donations received. Every donation makes a difference in the lives of the children.”
Bohang said the centre name has changed from Emfuleni Shelter for Boys to Emfuleni Child and Youth Care Centre.
She said children are placed through the Magistrates Court.
