Pensioner (84) raped and assaulted

Gogo’s neighbour, 'Lindiwe Mthembu' said, “In the early morning on Sunday I heard Gogo screaming for help. She was knocking on my window saying, “Someone help me please!” My husband and I immediately rushed to the door and that was when we saw her. Her pyjamas were full of blood, and I knew that Gogo had been raped.”

SHARPEVILLE. – An 84-year-old elderly woman says her spirit was broken by her rape ordeal. The incident happened when Gogo was sleeping alone in her small RDP house in Tshepiso South.

Gogo’s neighbour, ‘Lindiwe Mthembu’ said, “In the early morning on Sunday I heard Gogo screaming for help. She was knocking on my window saying, “Someone help me please!” My husband and I immediately rushed to the door and that was when we saw her. Her pyjamas were full of blood, and I knew that Gogo had been raped.”
Mthembu says she immediately sought help from a neighbour who deals with rape victims and then called the police. When the police arrived, Gogo told them how a man had entered her house in the middle of the night and assaulted her before raping her.
Gogo further told the police that after the incident, the man had instructed her to rub him before he left. Gogo managed to escape through her bedroom window to call for help.
Gogo’s daughter says the entire family is devastated by this incident: “I hope the perpetrator is arrested and rots in jail for what he did.” Police Spokesperson Captain Atie Loate confirmed that the case is being investigated by the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Vereeniging.
The neighbour’s name and surname have been changed to protect the victim’s identity.
