Households should use ‘gray’ water for gardens

The Vaal Dam's level is critically low. Here's how to save water by using waste water from your home for your garden

Yvonne Coertze, DA Councillor for Ward 9 in the Emfuleni Local Municipaility writes:
It is unbelievable how much water is wasted when the water of a washing machine just go down the drain.
Attached is a photo of a flexible pipe fiting bought at a plumber shop, connected to a big bore hose pipe.
The waste water of the washing machine is now directed towards the lawn and the garden.
After three washes, an area of lawn 5m by 5m was fully wet.
Another flexible pipe fitting and hose pipe can be connected to the waste water of the shower or bath.
With the current serious drought it is recommended that all households use their waste water to wet their lawn or garden.
