Man hanged and stoned to death

BOPHELONG.- Two 21-year-old males from Bophelong made their second appearance in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court on Tuesday after they were arrested for murder.

The two are said to be the culprits in the gruesome murder of Lucky Moreki (28), who was beaten, stoned and hanged from a heavy electrical pole in Muvhango last week, where he lost his life.

Vanderbijlpark Police spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale says, “The two are said to have chased after the deceased when they saw him in one of their yards.“They allege that the deceased was there to break in and steal. They chased him and beat him up but he managed to escape. They caught him for the second time, hanged him on an electrical pole and continued beating him and stoning him until he died.”

Makhale states that Police need witnesses of this gruesome incident to come forward and give information as the deceased was found naked, still hanging on the pole. “The family is still struggling to find the belongings of the deceased. Even his ID is missing.”

Speaking to the family, Moreki’s mother Popi Mohlouoa (48) said that she was deeply devestated by the manner in which her son was killed. “What we heard is that Lucky’s friend is the one who was being chased by these boys.“They found my child sleeping in his friend’s room where he had been living. They just assumed that he was the person they were looking for and killed him.

“Why did they have to hang him without proof that he had stolen anything from that house?” The family said they heard about the man who had been hanged and killed in the early morning of Sunday, but they only found out that it was Lucky on Tuesday.

Lucky’s younger brother Basa Moreki says, “The manner in which my brother was killed is sickening. He was hanged and humiliated as he had no clothes on. I hope justice will be served because no one has a right to take someone else’s life.”
