This increase is the second consecutive one, seeing fuel prices reaching their highest level this year. According to the Automobile Association (AA) the fuel price increase should not come as a surprise.
The Department of Energy announced that the price of petrol will go up by 45 cents a litre, the diesel price will rise by 63 cents a litre and illuminating paraffin is going up by 76 cents.
The inland fuel prices will be as follow from today: 93 unleaded petrol will go up to R12,79 per litre with 95 octane increasing to R13,05 a litre. The diesel price will increase to between R11,36 and R11,39 cents a litre.
“We believe the recent strengthening of the rand against the dollar has not been enough to prevent a fuel price hike for November. The rand incurred heavy losses at mid-month in the wake of the NPA’s decision to charge Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. The deficit has not been made up even though the rand has been slightly stronger in the last 10 days,” said Layton Beard from the AA.
