The discussion about “money in marriage” is an important one today since money fights are one of the leading cause of divorce, even in Christian marriages.

Marriage is giving – giving love and honour, courtesy and consideration. It also involves money and management of money. Poor money management can literally wreck a marriage.

The bible mentions money matters some 2350 times. That’s more passages than on heaven and hell combined. Since we have such an amazing divine resource, what lessons can we learn so that money matters will no longer destroy our marriages?

Scripture:
[Jesus said,] “But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things [our basic needs] will be given to us as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough of its own troubles” Matthew 6:33-34.

Advise:
Our God is faithful, reliable and dependable. He never leaves us nor forsakes us. He is always willing to meet our basic needs, according to His riches in glory.

Financial worry and anxiety are evidences of unbelief and are sure indicators of potential problems in marital money matters. I strongly advise married couples to learn to trust God for all their needs. Couples should also learn to be content with what God has given them. Discontentment results in jealousy for other couples and finally competition which may result in destruction. It is important for couples to guard their hearts against greed and envy.

May the Lord richly bless your marriages and continue to provide for all your needs according to His riches in glory.
