Vanderbijlpark Man airlifted to hospital

Paramedics were told that the 22-year-old man’s hand was injured while he was operating heavy duty machinery. His hand had allegedly gone into the shredding machine but it had been freed from it prior to their arrival.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports of a serious industrial accident in Vanderbijlpark.

Paramedics were told that the 22-year-old man’s hand was injured while he was operating heavy duty machinery. His hand had allegedly gone into the shredding machine but it had been freed from it prior to their arrival. He had sustained serious injuries to his right hand and was left with limited movement.

The man was attended to by a Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support Paramedic who administered analgesic medication to control the amount of pain that the man was experiencing.

Due to the serious nature of the injuries and the specialized trauma facility that was required, the paramedic opted to call the Netcare 911 specialized air ambulance to the scene. The patient was stabilized and then airlifted to a trauma unit in Johannesburg for the urgent medical care that he required.
