VEREENIGING. – Police Spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Koago has confirmed that a culpable homicide case is being investigated following the death of a 17-year-old boy who was killed by a truck yesterday on Boy Louw Road.

It is reported that the boy had climbed on top of the truck to remove scrap when he got stuck and was subsequently trampled on by the truck wheel. Following the incident, Koago has condemned the actions of scrap thieves, saying that one life lost is one too many.

” This is a big problem in society and a lot of lives have been lost. I would like to urge parents to speak to their children about the dangers of climbing onto moving trucks to steal scrap.”

Koago added that the SAPS youth desk is there for the use of young people in order to remove them from the streets. “Young people must rather join the various activities that get carried out by the SAPS Youth Desk.”
