SHARPEVILLE. – The MEC for Social development, Nandi Mayathula-Khoza has served the owner of Little Sunshine Day Care Centre with a notice to shut down the facility after it was found to be operating illegally. This follows the sudden death of two-year-old Bohlale Mngomezulu who died on 02 august at the centre.

Mayathula-Khoza said that the Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD) did not comply with the municipal By-Laws and its infrastructure was such that it is not completely suitable for the care of children. “We will serve the notice on them within seven days and then commence the relocation of children to nearby ECDs before we move them to new prototype centre that we have built in this community.”

The mother of the deceased, Mphonyana Mokoena has since laid charges with the Sharpeville police. Police spokesperson Captain Attie Loate confirmed that an inquest had been opened and that the matter was still under investigation.
