ER24 reports that two women were left critically injured this morning following a head-on collision between a bakkie and light motor vehicle on the M13 in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with another private service, arrived on the scene to scene to find the bakkie in the middle of the road while a light motor vehicle was found on the side of the road.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered a woman lying trapped inside the bakkie while another was found lying trapped in the light motor vehicle. Both women were found to be in a critical condition.
Rescue Services had had to use specialised equipment to free both patients from the vehicle. Once freed, paramedics treated both patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions.
During treatment, one of the critically injured vital signs rapidly diminished. Paramedics immediately initiated CPR in an effort to revive the patient.
A private medical helicopter was called to the scene to airlift one of the critically injured woman to a private hospital. The second patient was transported by ER24 paramedics to a nearby hospital.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
