RUS-TER-VAAL. – The  R82 between De-deur and Vereeniging has been closed due to protest action by the community of Rus-ter-vaal. According to community leader Moses Sebieson, the protest is as a result of the non delivery of a new school in the area as allegedly promised  by the Gauteng MEC  for Education, Panyaza Lesufi.

Residents say that their kids can not continue to suffer in the dilapidated building at Rus-ter-vaal High School. “The building is leaking and children are freezing because it is winter. The government must stop toying with us.”  It was also said that the building is not safe as it was built using asbestos.

Although representatives from the Gauteng Provincial Government tried to restore calm, the residents say they will not budge until there is a written agreement.  Motorists are urged to use alternative routes.
