SEDIBENG . The African National Congress (ANC) Sedibeng REC is set to meet the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) to seek recourse after national reports revealed a ‘sex for jobs’ scandal at the municipality last week.

Daily Sun  newspaper revealed last week that positions for internships at the ELM were extended by influential officials in return for sexual favours from their female counterparts whose stipends are also upped to about R27 000 from R7 000.

The ANC Sedibeng said that it has noted the report with shock and that the ‘worrying allegations’ are happening in an environment where opportunities for these jobs and training meant they should be conducted in accordance with the approved legal prescripts rather than favours informed by abuse of power from those trusted with responsibilities of governing public institutions on behalf of the people.

“The REC is waiting for Emfuleni to investigate these serious allegations and will seek guidance from the Regional Integrity Commission to determine any possible breach of the ANC constitution and ethical conduct expected from its members should any of the allegations be proven to be true.”

The ANC is the majority in the Emfuleni Local Municipality with ANC Gauteng Secretary Jacob Khawe being its executive mayor. At the time of going to print the ELM had not responded to an enquiry sent to them on the matter.
