VEREENIGING: Two houses were set on fire in Vereeniging following an alleged rape on Monday afternoon.
It is said that at about 05:00 police received a complaint of arson at house number 38 Joubert Street and on arrival they found that house no 36 and 38 were both on fire.
Vereeniging Police spokesperson, Captain Fikile Funda said that they then summoned fire fighters to the scene.
“When the fire subsided, we found the body of a male who was about 30 years of age and was badly burned, he was then certified dead by paramedics on the scene. We were then approached by a 28-year-old lady on the scene who told us that she was raped by the deceased and his friend who ran away from the scene in house number 38.”
Funda said that preliminary investigation led to the arrest of two suspects that were found on the scene, followed by the arrest of another two suspects at a later stage.
“We are investigating a case of arson, rape and murder.”
The suspects have since appeared in Vereeniging magistrate court.
