R6.5 million to be spent on rehabilitation of roads

SEBOKENG. – At least R6.5 million will be spent on the project rehabilitation of three key roads network in Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM). The announcement was made by Gauteng MEC for Public Roads and Transport Jacob Mamabolo, during the first sod turning conducted at Moshoeshoe road near Ipelegeng Bus company last Thursday.

The identified roads includes Moshoeshoe starting near Ipelegeng Buss company to Evaton in Sebokeng, Adams Road and Vilakazi street in Evaton. Mamabolo was joined by Sedibeng District Executive Mayor, Busi Modisakeng, Emfuleni MMC for infrastructure, Khethiwe Ntombela, and other stakeholders including those from the taxi industry. Mamabolo said they make sure that Gauteng government brings services to the people.

“The aim is to promote local economic development. The province aims to promote the smart roads campaign to make sure people travel safely during rain and peak hours. To avoid congestion, pollution negative externalities, fatalities due to potholes and to share the road optically. The identified roads connects to sectors of provincial and national roads.”

Mamabolo has told the main contractor, Basil Reed, that government is expecting good quality work.

“Make sure that the priority of the subcontractors should be local.We have given you enough time to complete the project.”
