The first buildup event will be held at the Evaton Plaza in Evaton on November 15 from 12:00 till late. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, the founder of the VMA, Jim Khama said that the buildup events are aimed at introducing the nominees and giving information regarding the main event. “For the second VMA’s we have decided to hold these buildup events to provide the community with as much information as possible so that when we go to the main event early next yearly community members know exactly what the awards are about and who stands where,” Khama said.
During the Evaton Plaza buildup event all the nominees will be introduced and there will also be live perfomances by artists in categories such as
Gospel, Afro, Reggae and House. The VMA started last year and was held at the Vereeniging Civic Theatre. Among the categories are Dance, Sokkie
(Afrikaans), Afro and Tradition. In the subcategories are divisions such as Best radio breakfast show, Best radio afternoon drive show and Best
Mix DJ.
