Pooe Festive Tournament still going strong

EVATON.- It is that time of the year when the local soccer fans will flock to the dusty soccer grounds in Evaton for the forthcoming Pooe Festive Soccer Tournament scheduled to take place at Beherman Rovers FC soccer grounds in Evaton from December 14.

The tournament will start with a Top Four scheduled to take place at the same venue on December 8.
This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by tournament coordinator, Bhekani Mathebula, saying this year’s tournament promises fireworks as in previous years.
The Pooe Festive Tournament is one of the biggest and popular township tournaments in Gauteng, it is also known as the “Kasi World Cup”. The tournament is regarded as the Sedibeng football legacy when taking the crowd it attracts with people spending their festive season watching Kasi football into consideration.
Mathebula said this season is not going to be an exception as they expect the local fans to come in big numbers.
The tournament is divided into four categories namely senior teams, u/13, u/15 and u/17.
The senior teams are the centre of attention with the stake expected to be high for the winning team.
“As always we are looking forward to a great festive season of football and as the Pooe Tournament organisers, we promise fireworks come December.
“As things stand, we have already received interest from teams as far as Limpopo, Free State, Soweto, Tembisa and Springs to mention but a few.
“We are expecting a humdinger tournament with the stakes high for the senior teams,” Mathebula said.
The likes of Steve “Chippa” Lekoelea and Sailor Tshabalala, used to grace this tournament during their prime-time entertaining local soccer fans.
Today, the same players are regarded as the ambassadors of the tournament with Betway also forming part of the tournament sponsorship.
