VEREENIGING. – The Vereeniging police spokesperson captain Fikile Funda has confirmed that that the attempted murder case that was opened following a shooting incident in Three Rivers recently has been temporarily stricken off the roll, pending further investigation.

Funda further stated this as the reason why the 35-year-old man who had been arrested in connection with the shooting had been released from police custody.

It is alleged that the victim and two friends had been sitting outside a liquor store when the incident happened.

ER24 Paramedics arrived on the scene and found the victim lying on the ground with two gunshot wounds.

Funda confirmed that the victim was still in hospital, in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The docket has been returned by the court for further investigation. As a result, the suspect has been released from police cells. As soon as the police are done with the investigation, the docket will again be handed to the courts.”

“Once the police have concluded with their investigation, the suspect will be requested to make an appearance in court,” Funda concludes.
