Two wounded in wild shooting

VEREENIGING.- The long arm of the law recently struck robbers with an iron fist in Vereeniging.

Two suspected robbers were admitted to Sebokeng Hospital with gunshot wounds following an armed robbery in the CBD. Rapid action by Sedibeng Highway Patrol Police led to the arrest of three suspects.
A fourth suspect fled on foot. The criminals had robbed a business in George Street. The suspects then fled in a powder-blue Toyota Conquest and were chased by the police to Senator Marks Avenue, after which they fired at the police.
Constables Leonard Netshituni, Lebohang Thotsejane and William Sombane were left unharmed in the shooting.
According to a police report, the police were searching for a suspicious vehicle in George Street, when a shop owner ran after them with news that she had just been robbed.
The police pursued the vehicle to Senator Marks Avenue where the suspects jumped out of the moving vehicle and began firing at the police.
Stolen goods and a 9mm Star pistol were found on the scene.
