EVATON. – The Evaton SAPS’ High-density Unit, together with the members of the Sedibeng Flying Squad members arrested a man in possession of an unlicensed firearm on Avondale Road, Parktown, Evaton on Wednesday night.
It is said that the members were on a routine patrol when they noticed the man at around 23:50. The man was apparently heading home when the police became suspicious of him as the area of Parktown is infested with criminals who hijack motor vehicles and rob people of their property at night. The suspect was searched and an unlicensed 9mm Norinco pistol was found in his possession.
The suspect will appear soon before Sebokeng magistrate s court to face a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm.
Police said that the arrest should send a strong message to hijackers and robbers around the Evaton precinct.
