WATCH: Details on Vanderbijl single vehicle rollover accident

WARNING: VIDEO IS NOT FOR SENSITIVE VIEWERS

There are still more questions than answers after footage revealed the tragic car accident in which 43-year-old Johanita Ehlers lost her life over the weekend, 7 March.

The accident occurred at the corner of Frikkie Meyer Boulevard and Klasie Havenga street across from Park Ford. Ehlers and their White Audi S5 Quattro hit a tree stump on the sidewalk, after which it burst through the fence of the Emfuleni Municipality’s offices and stopped on its roof.

It was initially reported that she was alone in the vehicle, but her husband, Mike Ehlers, 49, confirmed that a working acquaintance, a Nigerian man known only to him as Eddie, was in the white Audi S5 Quattro V8 at the time of the accident. She lost control of the vehicle, after which it hit a tree trunk on the sidewalk, burst through the fence and landed on its roof.

“We suspect she was thrown out of the car because she was 10 meters from the wreck. I can’t understand how she got to that intersection.

“She and Eddie drove to the store in Everest Street. Why and how she ended up there is a mystery to us. Something doesn’t make sense. Also, no groceries were found in the cart. Something “freaky” must have happened, “says Ehlers.

“What upsets me is that we had to wait for three hours for her body to be removed,” an angry Ehlers told Vaalweekblad.

It is also unclear why the passenger left the scene of the accident, but according to Ehlers the passenger was admitted to Sebokeng Hospital with a rib injury. This could not be confirmed at the time of going to press. According to eyewitnesses who witnessed the accident, the white Audi turned off Everest Street in Frikkie Meyer Boulevard and turned at high speed and lost control.

“We were first on the scene and saw a man getting out of the driver’s side with the woman’s handbag. He shouted that an ambulance should be called. She (Johanita) was lying about 10 meters further behind the vehicle,” the eyewitness, who requested to remain anonymous, said.

* Johanita was a pharmacist’s assistant at Sussmans Pharmacy in Vanderbijlpark. She leaves behind her husband Mike and two sons, Steven and Damian.

“She was a well-known and loved person. She always helped everyone and made herself too short for others. We would have celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary this year,” Ehlers said.
