Robbery suspects arrested in De Deur
"They will be charged with house robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.”
DE DEUR. – Swift response by community members and the police from the De Deur police station led to the arrest of two suspects aged between 21 and 28 years in the Wheelersfarm Section of De Deur yesterday.
It is said that whilst on patrol the De Deur Crime Prevention team came across a group of community members who were shouting to get their police attention to the direction where a family had just been robbed by two armed robbers.
Police Spokesperson, Warrant Officer Tshegofatso Maliehe, said that their members responded swiftly to the information and as they drove into the street, a silver grey Renault Clio reversed in high speed from the victim’s house.
“These two suspects immediately got out of the vehicle and started shooting at the direction of the police. The police, in retaliation, also shot back at the suspect until the suspects ran out of ammunition and fled the scene by foot. That is when the police chased and apprehended them, they will be charged with house robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.”
A firearm, ammunition, R 5000 in cash and the Reanult Clio were recovered during the arrest.
Maliehe said that the De Deur Station Commander, Lieutenat Colonel Jabulani Skhosana, applauded Constable Modise Mofokeng, Constable Vincent Mahlatsi, Constable Simon Motsau, Constable Lucia Nteso and Constable Mamohau Seboa for their swift response and bravery in arresting the two suspects.
