Operation clamps down on illegal electricity connections in Sicelo

All identified illegal electricity connections were disconnected.

MIDVAAL. -The Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) in conjunction with the South African Police Services (SAPS), South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and members of the Midvaal Traffic Department today clamped down on illegal electricity connections in Sicelo.

Police spokesperson Constable Phelisa Matyolo says, “This was part of ‘Operation Okae Molao’ which was carried out  to ensure that law and order are upheld in the vicinity.

“The District Commander Major General Zodwa Molefe previously raised concerns about illegal electricity connections in Sicelo. Molefe stated that the electricity cables and wires  crossing the streets pose a danger to children.

“Molefe engaged MLM  electrical department officials about the electricity live wires  scattered all over the road. An agreement was reached that an operation to disconnect the illegal electricity connection must be conducted.”

All identified illegal electricity connections were disconnected. Law enforcement agencies also drove around the area conducting awareness on the importance of upholding  COVID-19 National Lockdown regulations as well as wearing of face masks all the time.
