Midvaal Local Municipality is a success story

MLM has for the past six years garnered a clean audit, putting it among the best municipalities in the country and making it the best run municipality in the Gauteng Province.

MIDVAAL. – The Auditor General, Kimi Makwetu has once again sung praises about the Democratic Alliance (DA) run Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM). This was as he released his annual report on the performance of local municipalities in the past financial year.

MLM has for the past six years garnered a clean audit, putting it among the best municipalities in the country and making it the best run municipality in the Gauteng Province.

“The municipality is well run and a success story. The municipal culture, driven by both the political and administrative leadership, is characterised by zero tolerance for transgressions and by taking personal accountability for maintaining good financial practices and sustaining clean audit outcomes.”

In a detailed report, Makwethu stated that the municipality spent only 24% of its total revenue on salaries, leaving more money for service delivery.

Makwethu further pointed out the good condition of roads and the good maintenance of recreational facilities such as parks and community swimming pools as some of the things that scored the municipality points.

MLM Executive Mayor Bongani Baloyi attributes the success of the municipality to the clarity of strategic direction. “Our ethical leadership, professional and capable staff and workforce highly contribute to the success of the municipality.”
