BOIPATONG.- Respect, discipline and living a healthy lifestyle is what Alfred Ramafoko Ntele ascribes to his long lived life. Ntele turned a century old on 8 August. Not only is he articulate, he also reads from the bible without glasses and he was never a smoker or a drinker. To add spice to his life story, Ntele is a Bishop and a founder of the First Apostolic Church in Zion which was established more than 32 years ago. This grandfather walks up to 2 km a day, with the occasional help of a stick. His child and grandchildren recently organised him a mouth-watering, mother of all birthday party, keeping to COVID-19 pandemic protocols.

Family from near and far, young and old came to celebrate with Alfred Ramafoko Ntele.

Ntele was born in Kolonyane, Lesotho from a family of eight and is a last born. The centenarian subsequently settled in Gauteng in 1933. The father of four is survived by a son, Molefi Ntele (64). His wife passed away in 2018, leaving him to experience old age alone. Ntele started working at Wire Industrial Works, Yskor and at Metal Box now known as NamPak in Vanderbijlpark for more than 30 years respectively before he retired. Asked what he thought of COVID-19, his response was, “The pandemic will come and go, but I have my faith. Plagues come and go,” he said.
