The sinkhole formed on Sunday while the owner of the property was away. The property is bordering on the Meyerton Country Club.

The hole is approximately 13 meters deep and is one of two holes that formed on the property. The other one is right next to the house and caused some structural damage.

Pieter Ferreira and his family were forced to move to another property out of concern for their safety.

According to Pieter he has been struggling with a leaking sewage pipe on the property and has contacted the Midvaal Local Municipality numerous times to fix the leak.

Golf Park was built on a dolomite area.

The sinkholes that from in dolomite areas are as a result of chemical dissolution of the carbonate mineral.
