Taxi owner shot and killed in wife’s presence

Vilakazi  died on the scene after sustaining several gun wounds

MEYERTON . –  The police are probing the murder of a taxi owner and former chairperson of the Meyerton Taxi Association Abel Vilakazi.

Vilakazi was gunned down on Friday morning after  he and his wife arrived at  their take away shop in Sicelo.

Police Spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Koago says, “The wife got out of the car to go and open the shop, she then saw two unknown suspects pulling out their guns and shooting on the driver’s side.” Vilakazi  died on the scene after sustaining several gun wounds.

Meanwhile, various Government officials have condemned Taxi Violence. Early this year, Gauteng Public transport and Roads Infrastructure MEC Jacob Mamabolo said there would be a commission of inquiry into taxi violence taking place in the province.

“The inquiry’s mandate is to investigate the root cause of violence among taxi owners and operators and to give recommendations on what actions can be taken to curb it.”
