Vereeniging: New home of the “Big Hole”

VEREENIGING. - Kimberley is no longer the only city in South Africa that boasts a Big Hole, there are now many holes in Blackwood Street in Drie Riviere!

Residents believe a huge pothole on the corner of Blackwood Street and Hawthorne Street (at the entrance to the municipal landfill) has the potential to write off a vehicle.

“It is an accident waiting to happen,” said a resident who regularly uses the road.

People were warned last week to be careful when using the road.

Residents used the words “donga” and “canyon” on social media to describe this huge hole.

This is not the only hole. There are numerous pitfalls across Vereeniging waiting to damage car tires.

The condition of Blackwood Street is so bad that many residents now rather use General Hertzog Road.

The potholes are caused by heavy trucks that use the road daily and a general lack of maintenance.
