BOIPATONG.– A seven-hour marathon of digging for what is believed to be a ‘tikoloshe’ and ‘muthi’ planted in a yard of a Boipatong family resulted in what the family believes to be a success.

The digging followed after the family consulted a ‘Sangoma’ from Eatonside in Sebokeng who then dug out muthi and a cellphone amongst other things from two spots in the yard of a 57-year-old woman, who had apparently been haunted by the creature in Qwa-Qwa Street, Boipatong. Materials that were dug out also included a knife, a pen, used female pads, a shaving razor bones, spectacles and a photo of an unknown woman. Also unearthed was a twenty rand note into which holes had been cut for eyes and a mouth. A clay look-alike of a monkey with two round coins over its eyes wearing a whistle on its neck was also dug out.
The ‘tikoloshe’ is said to have run away after it was interrupted dancing up and down, releasing wolf-like howls in the yard after the arrival of the Sangoma. The son of the 57-year-old woman is said to have chased it with his dogs, but they were outran by the creature. The Sangoma was reportedly driven from his home in Sebokeng to the affected house carrying nothing but a pick and a shovel. Speaking after the Sangoma’s visit, the woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, said that persistent squabbles were a daily occurrence in her family, but they have since stopped after the consultation with the Sangoma and her family was now able to sleep throughout an entire night for the first time in years. The retrieved items were burned with a domestic mirror by the Sangoma who is said to have not wanted any payment from the family. A small donation was however made to him for his work
