Vanderbijl shootings: What we know so far

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Police Spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele has confirmed that the police have launched an inquest into numerous shooting incidents after a man allegedly went on a shooting spree before taking his own life last night.

It is reported that the man on his arrival at a restaurant in Vanderbijlpark allegedly hit a white double cab which capsized, injuring one man.

He then got out of his BMW X5 and shot at the injured man.

He further shot at a father (Johan Hebler) and his son (Nathan) while they were approaching the restaurant to get takeaways.

Johan was shot in the stomach and is reportedly in a stable condition in hospital. Nathan was shot three times and was taken to hospital in critical condition.

A family member later announced on Facebook that he had unfortunately died from his wounds.

The motive for the shootings is not yet known.

A fourth victim, a car guard who was on his way home is said to have sustained a fatal gun wound to his head after the man in the BMWX5 shot him on the head.

Bystanders on the scene say the man drove off after shooting the man.

“We confirm the incident. All the other shooting incidents will be subject to a police investigation.”

Makhubele could not confirm that the man had killed his wife and children as per information circulating on social media.
