Mittal accident – Three still trapped

According to NUMSA, 3 workers were still trapped under the rubble at ArcelorMittal after the explosion this morning at 02:00

VANDERBIJLPARK.- The National Union of Metalworkers (NUMSA) said in a press release that they are very concerned about three workers who are still missing after an explosion at ArcelorMittal in Vanderbijlpark.

The blast occurred at 02:00 on 17 February 2021. According to the press release, the union is concerned that the workers have been trapped under the rubble.

Emergency services are on the scene and efforts are being made to find the workers and bring them to safety without causing another explosion.

The press release also indicates that the workers’ families are already being assisted and receiving counseling. No further information was released.

So far no information has been received from Mittal itself.
