VANDERBIJLPARK.- A Futballing Girls Sedibeng Women In Sports Awards photo- shoot took place in Vanderbijlpark over the weekend.
The photo shoot was in rehearsal for the main event that is scheduled to be live on Facebook and other social media platforms this Friday.
The winners have already been announced but because the organisers want to create a vibe, they have asked the media not to publish the names of the winners so that people will watch the awards live on their Facebook page.
The awards recognize women, young and old, for their contribution in sports.
This is Futballing Girls initiative to recognise women in sports in the Gauteng Province. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Futballing Girls Founder, Moonira Ramathula said that because of the lockdown regulations the awards will be held virtually as part of a ‘new normal’ in sports.
Futballing Girls will host this event in conjunction with Gauteng Sports Confederation and Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM). Ramathula said that she is overwhelmed by how much the women who received the awards appreciated being recognised for their contribution in the development of sports in this country.

“We as Futballing Girls want to take this opportunity to thank the support of everyone who contributed to the success of the awards. I also wish to thank our stakeholders for buying in this idea. It is Futballing Girls’ responsibility to acknowledge the role that women play in sports. We also want to thank all the media houses for marketing this event from day one. We are grateful for your support and role you play in the community to promote sports in this country.”
The awards will be live on Facebook tomorrow (Friday) where the winners will be officially announced to the public.
“We want to create a vibe hence we don’t want to mention the winners now. However, I must say that the public must not miss the event,” said Ramathula.
The awards are divided into numerous categories including, sports administrators, coaches, players and clubs. There are also awards for Women sports star of the year, Women Achiever of the year and Club of the year awards to mention but few and all the sporting codes are represented.
